“Excuse me? Woman? Can you hear me?

“Quiet. Her brainwaves are currently in a state of Theta. She will not be capable of entering the facility entirely until her conscious mind produces Delta brainwaves. There is a probability she is currently retrieving data from a combination of her physical surroundings as well as her subconsciously generated surroundings.”

“Then should we not attempt to alert her?”

“The woman must allow her consciousness to drift on its own. Wait...according to the readings of the data  I am collecting via the scan of her cranium, her brain activity is increasing. She must be regaining consciousness…”

The female quickly opened her eyes and sat up in her bed. She looked around her dark bedroom for the sources of the odd sounding voices she was hearing. She’d never heard them before, but despite their unfamiliarity, they sounded as if they had been right beside her. *”What a strange dream…”* she thought as she tossed her pale legs over the side of her black bed and stood up slowly. She admired the hue of pink and purple colors that adorned the morning sky over the horizon outside her window before walking over to her dresser and brushing her thick hair.

A knock on her door startled her. She couldn’t think of who it might be, but regardless, she continued to brush as she opened her door.

“Oh! You’re awake...I uh,” The man on the other side of her door mumbled nervously. He cleared his throat, “Did you sleep well, Miranda?”

“Ah, yes, I suppose.” Miranda answered. She kept brushing her hair as he stood in front of her. He kept looking at her face, then back to her feet as he twisted around his bronze wrist bangles without speaking; the corners of his lips slightly upturned. “Um...is there something you need, Section Leader Reever?”

“Just ‘Reever’ is fine.”

“Huhu, sorry.”

Reever rubbed the back of his neck, recalling his excuse to visit her. “Oh, right...well the Chief wants to see you-”

Miranda began brushing her hair more quickly and smiled. “Tell him I’ll be there soon!”

“I will. But you know, I’ve been wondering-”

Before the man could finish, Miranda quickly shut herself back into her room to prepare to go to the Chief’s office.

Reever stood outside her door for a few more seconds before walking off and mumbling, “Nevermind then…”

“What was that, eh?” a young voice caused him to turn back.

“Hey, Silverton,” he greeted the slouching teen as she approached him. He leaned down to get a closer look at her face. “You okay?”

“Yeah, do I look not okay?”

“You look like you’ve been crying or something. Your eyes are all red.”

Silverton chuckled, “If I’d been crying, my nose would be all red and my face would be all splotchy. But this?” She pulled her eyelids down with her fingertips, exposing the pink flesh beneath, “I’d figure the Science Division Head of all people would easily recognise this.”

Reever fixed his tie and laughed half-heartedly, “Ah, having trouble sleeping, are you?”

“Not exactly, I just haven’t gone to bed at all yet.”

“Why not?”

“Wasn’t tired. Don’t worry, it’ll probably kick in in an hour or two, though.”

The Australian man nodded his head, remembering the report he’d been given upon Silverton’s initial arrival. As a parasitic accommodator, she must store a lot of energy in her body to make up for what she expends in battle. Unlike Allen Walker, who consumes copious amounts of food, Silverton engages in extended sessions of sleep; making it unpredictable when she will actually feel exhausted.

“So, what were you doing outside Miranda’s room?” The brunette questioned, poking his shoulder playfully.

Reever sighed, “I was just telling her the Chief was requesting her in his office, that’s all.”

“Reeeally? Why don’t I believe you?” the girl pestered, “Look, just ask her on a date or something and get it over with.”

“I can’t do that. I haven’t had a day off in months.” he replied, slowly walking away back to the staircase.

Silverton walked beside him. “Then be a rebel! Skip work for a day. Isn’t she worth it?”

“Just stop.” Reever demanded suddenly, rubbing his temple. “I know you don’t understand; you’re still a kid. You don’t understand that if I skip doing my job for one day, my men could make one small mistake that - no matter how insignificant it may seem at the time - could completely throw off our entire system. I’m a leader. I can’t afford to slack off,” he ran his fingers through his spiky blond hair and sighed, “Not even for her…”

---

“Yo, Greenie, you said Kyrine was visiting this afternoon, right?” a young man hollered as he dipped his hands into the sudzy dishwater.

“That’s correct,” came an elderly voice from the main room.

The young man scrubbed a plate with a dowsed rag and said, “Lemme guess, I’m in charge of cooking again, right?”

“That’s correct,” the old man stated matter-of-factly as he walked into the kitchen to the stove beside the boy and refilled his teacup. “And don’t get any ideas, Ackers. If you even so much as THINK about laying your hands on my little girl-”

“I know, I know. You’ll ‘make a call to the Death Sage’. I get it.” He reached for a dry towel and began wiping his hands. “It’s not my fault she has a crush on me, y’know.”

The man swung his wooden staff; effectively striking the boy’s head. “Do not disrespect her, Ackers. Kyrine is visiting so she may demonstrate to me how prepared she is to take up my work, not so she can be harassed by the likes of you.”

He huffed, blowing his cherry blond locks out of his eyes. “That was harsh, Greenie.” He walked himself into the main room and flopped down on the sofa. He lazily began counting on his fingers, “I watered the garden, dusted the guestroom, oiled the pumps, mopped the floors, washed the dishes…” he trailed off sleepily, “lunch, right.” a sigh. “I’ll get to that in a minute...”

The elderly Sage of Life tapped his sandaled foot as he looked down at Jethese, who lay sloppily sprawled on the sofa with the sleeves of his white dress shirt rolled up. He was going to yank on his collar and tell him to get to work, but paused as he recalled gazing into the boy’s red eyes the day he’d found him a week or two ago.

“Ackers? What are you doing out here?” Tsamo questioned from beneath the shelter of his umbrella.

Hearing the man’s familiar voice through the roar of the rain, Jethese lifted his head up from his kneecaps and pulled his drenched, overgrown bangs out of his face, looking up at him with red irises.

Tsamo peeked down the dark alleyway where the teenager sat. “Why aren’t you at the inn? I thought Malinda had given you a room.”

“Kicked me out.” the young man stated with a false smile.

“Kicked you out? Why would she do that? Malinda is a kind woman.”

He lifted his soaked green jacket over his head to try and shield himself from the rain, but to no avail. “Generosity always comes with a price, nowadays.”

“What’re you implying?”

“Didn’t pay rent. Again.”

“What about your job at the library?”

Jethese bit his lip and forced himself to look the man in the eyes. “Fired me.”

He had to admit, it wasn’t that hard to believe. Seeing the helpless boy sitting on the pavement in the alleyway getting drenched caused the sentimental old man to think of his apprentice, who’d left for the Order some weeks ago. He’d found her a mere two years ago, looking just as guilty about god-knows-what. It was as if this boy, this normally cocky, overconfident boy, was but a reflection of her.

“Why don’t you just go.” The blond snapped. “Leave me here. I can take care of myself. I’m used to it.”

Hearing the cleverly masked quivering in his voice, Tsamo smiled pitifully down at him. “You sound just like her.”

Jethese felt his cheeks heat up as he listened to the man’s offer. A place to stay in exchange for the housework that his apprentice used to take care of. He wasn’t the only one who missed her so much it would ache.

The Sage of Life was pulled out of his memory as he heard a faint snore from Jethese as he lay down on the sofa. Tsamo took a deep breath and stepped back. Without bothering to wake the boy, he rolled up his sleeves and walked into the kitchen. *”It’s been a while since I’ve cooked a meal for my daughter anyway.”*

---

Komui Lee was sitting at his desk in his paper-littered office. He had a file decorated with a rose cross in front of him. He sipped his hot coffee as he read the label in the upper corner. “Lotto, Miranda.”

A knock on the door caused him to look up. “Come in.”

The door opened up cautiously as Miranda peeked inside.

Komui smiled warmly and motioned for her to enter. “Don’t be shy, have a seat.”

Miranda’s heart raced as she walked towards  the sofa in front of his desk. *”He’s so handsome when he smiles..!”* She daintily sat on the cushion and tried not to smile back, afraid she would look goofy; although forcing it back undoubtedly made it worse.

“How are you feeling, Miranda? Have you had breakfast yet?” Komui questioned, breaking the ice.

“Oh! Um…” she lightly combed her hair with her fingers, “No, I came straight here.”

He fixed his glasses. “I see. Do you know why I requested to see you today?”

*”Because you want to confess your undying love for me? Of course not…”* She cleared her throat and replied, “N-No sir.”

Komui picked up the file with the woman’s name on it and stood up. He walked around his desk and leaned against the front of it. “I brought you here to talk about your innocence. I heard about what happened during your mission in Rouen, France. I would’ve visited you in the medical wing had it crossed my mind.”

“It’s fine, really.” Miranda lightly squeezed the hand that had been broken previously. It was nearly healed, aside from the occasional sharp pain; though she’d gotten used to it.

“I’ve been thinking about remodelling it - your innocence, I mean,” Komui stated. “With some new modifications, you’d be able to participate in battle and defend yourself more effectively.”

Miranda’s heart dropped. “M-Me? Fighting..? N-No, I’m really inexperienced! I’d be an even bigger hassle to my comrades than I already am…”

“I know it seems frightening, but,” the Chief set her file on his desk again, “All innocence has the potential to destroy akuma. Yours is no exception. It’s good to have a defensive advantage like yours, but we need as many offensive attacks as possible right now.

---

“Waaaaake uuuuuup!” Rang the voice of a familiar girl. “Yoohoo! You look so cute when you’re asleep!”

Jethese opened his crimson eyes partially as he lay on his stomach on the couch with his cheek smushed against the cushion. There was something pressing down on his back. “Mmph…” he propped himself up on his elbows and looked over his shoulder, only to meet eye to eye with the green-haired girl sitting on him. “Kyrine? When did you get here?”

The girl leapt up off of him and knelt down on the floor beside him. “I just got here a minute ago. Daddy let me in the door and went back in the kitchen.” She poked his nose with her index finger. “Get up, I’m bored already.”

Jethese chuckled and sat up. “As you wish, Princess,” he whispered with a wink. He quickly shook his head, his cherry blond hair swaying around. He pulled back his bangs and clipped them with a barrette.

Kyrine grabbed his hand and pulled, trying to lift him off the sofa. “Come on, let’s go outside!”

“You know, your old man is gonna take you out there soon to test you, right? Wouldn’t you rather have lunch first-” Jethese froze. *”Lunch...Kyrine...fuck, I was supposed to-!”* He quickly shot up and darted into the kitchen.

“Did you sleep well, Mister Ackers?” Tsamo asked as he tossed a salad with a pair of tongs.

“I…” Jethese sighed and unbuttoned his collar a bit. “I’m so sorry, sir. Please, just one more chance, it won’t happen again.”

Tsamo smiled over at him. “Tell you what, set the table for lunch, and I’ll forget it ever happened. Deal?”

The seventeen year old boy sighed with relief and nodded. “Yes, sir! Thank you so much.” He hastily opened the cabinets and pulled out the dishes he’d washed earlier, carefully placing them on the dining room table.

Kyrine peeked her head into the room and looked around. She frowned and mumbled, “This is gonna be strange without Silly here…”

Jethese laughed, “Calling her ‘Silly’ isn’t gonna get her to want to come back, y’know.”

“But I like calling her that!” Kyrine stood beside the boy, waiting for him to pull her chair out.

The boy politely did so with a smile. “I guess I’m gonna have to be your servant since Elysia isn't here.”

“No, call her Silly. It sounds cuter.”

“It sounds silly.”

She patted down her sash and straightened out her shawl. “Daddy,” she called, “can I go see the town today? Jethese can take me!”

The Sage scoffed, “That’s not a good idea. Silverton isn’t here to protect you. There are several threats in the outside world, you know that.”

Kyrine looked down at her knees. “I won’t go too far from home, Daddy. I promise! Pretty please? I just want to visit a real marketplace. It’s nearly summer, I bet it’s really pretty with women carrying parasols and colorful fruit in the stands.”

Tsamo sighed as he set the food on the table. He understood exactly how his ‘teenaged’ daughter felt. “Kyrine, you have a big responsibility. You’ve inherited my powers, and this isn’t something to be taken lightly.” He walked over and rested a hand on her shoulder. “I know it’s not fun to stay sheltered twenty-four-seven, I went through the same thing with my grandmother when I was a young boy.”

“Sir,” Jethese mumbled, “If you let her go after the tests, I swear I’ll protect her as best I can. I know I’m not as strong as Elysia is, but I won’t let her out of my sight.”

The Sage glanced down at his daughter, who looked up at him with her bold green eyes. He sighed and said to Jethese, “Alright, fine. But I’m tying your wrists together just to be safe.”

If you're going to comment, I would appreciate it if you could please answer at least some of the questions below based on what you've read thus far. The answers you give would benefit me greatly and help me to make Sage's Apprentice more enjoyable.

:bulletblue: What do you think of Silverton thus far? Does she have some qualities you particularly like or dislike? Does she seem like a character you or other people can easily relate to? Does she seem a bit Mary-Sue-ish?

:bulletred: Do you have any short term predictions for the story (things that are in the process of happening/things that will happen soon)?

:bulletgreen: Do you have any long term predictions for the story (things that will happen over time/things that will happen in the future)?

:bulletyellow: Are there any canon characters that seem a bit out of character? Who would you like to see more of in the story? Am I portraying the canon characters accurately?

:bulletpink: What do you think of the storyline? Does the overall story match the genres posted in the description? If you could categorize the story differently, what would you make it?

You don't have to answer them all, I would greatly appreciate it though. Please be honest, so I can improve. Negative criticism is welcome. :)
