Sage's Apprentice -DGM fanfic- CH 41

The girl quietly groaned as she opened her eyes ever so slowly.

“Silverton? Are you okay?” Reever asked her as he noticed her awakening.

The room went silent as everyone watched what happened next. No one could; or even wanted to; believe their eyes.  Everyone’s jaws dropped simultaneously as they watched the young girl lift her hand and weave her fingers through Reever’s spikey hair before pulling him down and locking her lips with his.

Honestly, it took everyone; especially Reever; a long time to react. The image they all were witnessing wasn’t near what they expected. Silverton, the sixteen year old, was actually kissing Reever…the twenty seven year old.

The girl pulled back, her hand sliding down to the back of his neck. She smiled a smile that Reever didn’t recognize; flirtatious yet mischievous.

Reever finally yanked her hand away and quickly stood up, wiping his mouth with the back of his hand. “W-What the hell, Silverton? Why would you even..?!”

Before he could continue, he was roughly shoved aside by the firm hand of a dark haired man. In a flash, that man was pulling the brunette girl by the collar. He made sure she was facing directly at him by holding her chin forward forcefully. Despite this, she kept her eyes closed with a small smirk on her lips. With one firm demand, Kanda growled at her, “OPEN. YOUR. EYES. NOW.”

With a giggle, the girl’s eyelids flicked open, exposing her bold violet eyes to Kanda’s dark narrow ones. She stuck her tongue out playfully as he snarled at her.

Kanda shoved her back down onto the ground with a thud.

“H-Hey, go easy on her, Kanda..!” Allen explained, “I’m sure she’s…just dizzy, right?” He looked around the crowd for confirmation from the other witnesses, but hell, none of the others could even believe their eyes.

“That is very odd…” Komui said, sipping punch casually, “After all, it was only knock out gas…”

Reever snapped his head around, “WHAT THE HELL YOU MEAN, ‘ONLY KNOCK OUT GAS’?!”

Kanda unsheathed Mugen and pointed it straight at the girl. “…Nova.”

Allen and Lavi both stared at her as she lay on the floor. It was almost surreal to see her again. Last time they’d seen Nova, Silverton was a mere stranger. It was a completely different experience now that Silverton had been at the Black Order for a few weeks.

“Awh, what gave me away? It’s ‘cause I’m cuter than my sister, isn’t it?~” Nova said to the three boys she recognized with a wink.

“Shuttup, whore.” Kanda demanded as he brought the blade dangerously close to her; scraping the skin on her neck.

Nova cracked a smile before bursting out in laughter. “Really? You’re gonna slit my throat?  Or are you going for decapitation? Whew, that’s a fancy way to go out, isn’t it?” she enjoyed their confused expressions as she continued, “Go ahead and kill me. I’m already dead, idiot! All you’d do is kill my sister. But, I won’t mind. It all depends on whether or not you want to dispose of this bitch’s bloody corpse.~”

After much hesitation, the frustrated samurai sheathed his katana.

“This could be a problem…” Allen mumbled to Lavi.

Minutes later, Allen announced that the welcoming party was postponed. At the same time, Nova was taken to the science division where they’d attempt to get Nova to stop controlling Silverton’s body.

“You all are no fun…” Nova said with her lower lip puffed as she sat in a chair in the center of the room, “Now, I’m pretty good at having fun.~ If you’d like, I wouldn’t mind providing you all with a little entertainment.~”

Standing around her was Reever, Komui, General Tiedoll, Kanda, Maurie, and Dasiya. They were trying to ignore the girl’s comments while at the same time trying to make sense of the situation.

“Yo, Tiedoll,” Daisya began, “why do we have to be here?”

The general scratched his head and answered, “Because, Silverton is a part of this unit. I figure that we all should be aware of what to expect and how to handle this situation. As her comrades, you all should be able to help her out of this in the future.”

“Well Kanda’s seen her like this before, right?” Daisya lifted his hood over his head, “So can’t he fix it? What about Walker or Lavi?”

Maurie replied, “Allen is helping clean up the party and I believe Lavi went to go wake up Bookman, who was sleeping. They’ll be here soon enough.”

Reever loosened his tie and said, “So, is there a way we can tell the difference between Silverton and Nova…?”

“Could always wait for her to kiss you again,” Daisya laughed.

“It’s the eyes,” Kanda answered, “When I first met Nova, I noticed her violet eyes. But then when Silverton is…herself…her eyes are blue. That’s how I could tell the difference.”

They all peeked over at the girl, who winked teasingly at them all. “Have you changed your minds about this yet? When are you going to learn how much more fun than her I am?~”

“Hey guys, sorry we’re late,” A familiar voice chimed as he walked in, exposing his red hair. Following him was Allen, Bookman, and Lenalee. “Is that…still Nova?” Lavi questioned as he glanced at the brunette.

Nova’s violet eyes widened as she laid her eyes on Lenalee. “Oh my god, you skirt is so cute! And I love your pigtails! Have you ever tried curling your hair? You’d look absolutely adorable!~” She said with sparkling eyes.

Lavi and Allen looked at each other and spoke in unison, “Yup, definitely not Silverton…”

“Alright everyone,” Tiedoll spoke out, “If anyone has any ideas how to fix this problem, speak up.”

Everyone’s eyes focused on the four exorcists who’d gone and found Silverton in the first place. They didn’t bother asking questions. Instead, they all began to think.

Of course, the first thing Allen, Lavi, and Kanda thought of was back when they first discovered she was the one who was destroying akuma in Earthridge. Allen started, “Well first of all, shortly after we first met Nova, an akuma showed up at the end of the street. Then, out of nowhere, Nova just showed up and destroyed the akuma.”

“Then,” Lavi chimed in, “once the akuma was gone, she passed out. And when she woke up, she wasn’t Nova anymore.”

Maurie rubbed his chin, “So what you’re saying is in order to get rid of Nova, we just have to wait for her to sleep?”

Bookman replied, “I don’t think it’ll be that easy. We interviewed the Sage about it afterwards and he said the reason Silverton was able to control herself after destroying the akuma had to do with her innocence.”

“That’s right,” Lavi nodded, “He said the innocence acted on its own to destroy the akuma and that alone is what allows Nova to enter or exit Silverton’s body.”

“Which shoots down the idea of letting her go to sleep to get Nova out…” Reever mumbled, scratching his goatee, “But how did Nova get control in the first place?”

Kanda answered, “Because Silverton was first sleeping when her innocence could sense an akuma. I guess it entered a state of defense in order to protect its accommodator.”

Reever’s eyebrow twitched. “So then what you’re saying is…if, say, some idiot were to try to use knock out gas on Silverton…her innocence would react to protect her?”

Everyone glared at Komui and hollered, “So this is all YOUR fault!”

“Wait a minute, everyone!” Lenalee began, trying not to lash out at her brother for his folly, “Doesn’t that mean if we got her innocence to react to protect Silverton, it will force Nova out?”

“Hey, good idea!” Daisya noted with a snap of his fingers, “Let’s beat her up til she-OOMPH!” Kanda cut him off with a quick jab in the gut.

“Maybe Kanda could use his sword,” suggested Allen, “I mean, he’s used it on her before, right? Her innocence can stop it from breaking her skin right?”

“Yeah!” Reever exclaimed, “I’ve been curious about that ever since I saw her spar with Kanda. We should give it a shot!”

The samurai shook his head. “That won’t work. If you think back to when we first met Silverton – when she woke up and tried to escape out a window – Mugen cut her easily. Her innocence only stops Mugen from hurting her when she controls it.”

“Ahh! Now I get it!” Lavi came to a realization, “When she tried to escape, she grabbed Mugen intentionally, right? Which means she wasn’t expecting it to hurt her because she assumed it was an ordinary sword, right? That means an ordinary blade wouldn’t be able to cut her because of the innocence, right?!”

Bookman face-palmed. “Just get to the point!”

“All we have to do is use a regular blade to cut her, and her innocence should act on its own to save her!” Lavi said with a smile.

“But your theory is flawed,” Maurie added, “Nova started controlling her because of knock out gas. It had nothing to do with her innocence stopping a blade form contacting her skin. I doubt a paper cut would cause her innocence to react…Shouldn’t it be more…severe..?”

“If that’s true…” Reever mumbled, “Then we’d have to inflict a potentially fatal injury that her innocence could prevent…”

A moment later, they all heard laughing. They turned their attention back to Nova, who was having a fit. “You’re all idiots! Go ahead, you’ll get nowhere! All you’ll do is kill her!”

They looked at Komui and Tiedoll for affirmation on the plan.

Komui rubbed the back of his neck. “Well, if what you say is true, there’s about an 83% chance of this working…”

“But that leaves a 27% chance for her to die…” Tiedoll muttered worriedly.

“100%, you pathetic idiots! 100%!” Nova sang tauntingly.

Everyone looked around, unsure of what to do. No one wanted to be responsible for murdering the Order’s newest exorcist.

“Reever, toss me your pen.” Kanda said, staring at the girl.

Reever pulled his pen from his coat pocket and tossed it to him. “What do you need it for?”

The samurai caught the pen in his hand. “All she needs is a potentially fatal wound, right? Something her innocence…” he uncapped the pen definitively, “could prevent…” he stood in front of Nova.

Nova’s eyes widened when she realized what he was about to do. “You’re gonna stab me? Whatever, you’ll be the one with blood on your hands.”

Kanda readied his arm to swing.

“I told you, you’re wasting your time! Don’t be a fool! You’ll regret it for the rest of your life! You’re only bluffing; no one has that kind of gut…”

Kanda smirked and whispered, “Rot in hell, bitch.”

Then, silence plagued the atmosphere as the young man swung his arm and stabbed the brunette in the neck.
